Toilets and changing rooms are provided for clients with safe vehicle parking and indoor
storage for bicycles and gear.
We operate with 2 motorised vessels ‘Adventurer 1’ on Lake Manapouri and ‘Adventurer 2’ on Doubtful Sound.
Both boats are operated
under M & I Safe Ship Management and surveyed annually to be up to the highest safety standards. They are operated by qualified skippers and guides.
We have many different options
available, including:
- cruise and bushwalk options on Lake Manapouri
- row boat hire and transport to cross the Waiau River to the Manapouri Tracks for day or overnight walks (with Dept of
Conservation huts).
- one and two day guided kayak adventures into Doubtful Sound
- rental kayaks for Lake Manapouri - all rental groups must have suitable prior kayaking experience. A
comprehensive safety briefing along with trip planning/weather information is provided. VHF radios are supplied for safety backup (Conditions apply for rental options).
- personal emergency
locator beacons for hire.
We operate with Department of Conservation Concession PAC 14 - 06 – 145 and hold a Resource Consent to operate in the Sound. We use NZ’s Environmental Care
Code. We are members of the Tourism Industry Association NZ and we are members of ‘Sustainable Tourism South’ and follow recommended practices for recycling and sustainability within the
environment.
All guided tours have access to vessels in case of emergency. All guides are experienced and knowledgeable about the area and follow an ongoing training program throughout the season.
Note that Fiordland is a mountainous area subject to sometimes rapidly changing weather
patterns – every care is taken to ensure your safety and enjoyment at all times on both our guided and rental options. As with all outdoor activities there is a degree of risk which is minimised if
not eliminated with our Audited Safety Plan.
Size and height restrictions apply to people on all kayaking options – please
enquire directly if you feel that you may have an issue in this regard. We do not assume any responsibility for any damage or loss to personal items while clients are on a tour.
We are committed
to protecting the natural environment in which we live and work – we have a clean safety record and comply with all regulating bodies within the area. Over the past years we have been involved
in the restoration of Pomona Island - it is now a pest free sanctuary for native bird life. We offer a moderate adventure with added safety features – previous kayaking experience is
not required for guided tours but for your comfort you should have a good level of fitness. Bring your sense for adventure and fun with you!
We look forward to meeting and sharing a
‘Fiordland Adventure’ with you.
Regards, Reg, Jo and guides
